快速了解
Shenzhen has multiple Triple-A hospitals with international medical departments — I've researched them all in depth. Different hospitals excel in different specialties — choosing right saves time, money, and stress. Not sure which one? Start with a Pre-trip Consultation (from ¥400, 30-min video call) and I'll help you figure out where to go, who to see, and how to book.

First Things First: International Dept vs Standard Outpatient
If you don't have Chinese medical insurance, the International Medical Department is designed for you. Here's why:
- International departments serve self-pay patients and commercial insurance holders
- They don't take resources from local patients (this is official policy)
- Longer consultations, English support, and direct insurance billing
For a detailed explanation, see the Why Foreigners Should Choose International Departments guide.

For infectious disease issues (hepatitis B/C, HIV, TB, unexplained fever), Shenzhen Third People's Hospital is the most specialized choice in Shenzhen and southern China. It has national-level backing in infectious diseases, not just a general hospital that 'treats everything.' The new PET-CT (2025) is particularly useful for locating infection foci (Nuclear Medicine intro).
🏥 Hospital Overviews
Shenzhen People's Hospital International Medical Department
If you need 'comprehensive' care — multi-department consultations, complex surgeries, academician teams — this is Shenzhen's strongest choice. The 2026 expansion means a better environment (official account). The downside is the Luohu location, which is less convenient for Futian/Nanshan clients.
HKU-SZ Hospital International Medical Center
If you're used to Western-style medical communication, HKU-SZ is the top choice — fully English system, doctors communicate like they would abroad, 30+ international insurers for direct billing (insurance partnerships). Spine (Zhang Wenzhi), cardiac surgery (Wang Chunsheng), and obstetrics (Wang Jie) are three crown jewels. Located in Futian Shenzhen Bay, convenient transport.
Peking University Shenzhen Hospital Specialist Clinic
PKU-SZ's strength is 'chronic disease management' — diabetes, psychology, allergy, conditions requiring long-term follow-up (diabetes management). If you're an expat executive needing annual checkups + chronic disease management, their specialist clinic is ideal. Located in central Futian, convenient transport.
SMU Shenzhen Hospital

Image source:First Batch: International Hospital Accreditation

Image source:HK-Macau Drug Connect: New Vitiligo Treatment

Image source:American Patient: Radiation + TCM Treatment
SMU is the benchmark for 'international accreditation + cross-border insurance' — first batch to pass international hospital accreditation, first to complete on-site review (accreditation report), first to implement seamless cross-border claims (claims report). If you have international commercial insurance needing direct billing, or if you're coming from Hong Kong via the Qianhai cross-border data channel, this is the best choice. Also, their HK-Macau Drug Connect coverage is extensive (new drug introduction) — you can access imported drugs not available on the mainland.
Shenzhen Samii Medical Center (Fourth People's Hospital)
Sami Medical Center's biggest draw is neurosurgery — named after "Father of Skull Base Surgery" Prof. Samii, who visits regularly. MRI at ¥800/partition (much cheaper than HK), same-day checkup results, Cantonese guide desk — very HK-friendly. The only downside is the Pingshan location (Line 14, 40-60 min from city center).
Shenzhen Third People's Hospital (International Dept)
Most unique hospital on the list — infectious disease expertise, liver transplant unmatched in Shenzhen. Exclusive Harvard/Mass General Brigham partnership. Downside: Longgang location.
SYSU Seventh Affiliated Hospital International Medical Center
SYSU 7th International Medical Center is the only international department in Guangming District. Take high-speed rail from Hong Kong West Kowloon to Guangmingcheng Station (18 min), then 10-min taxi ride. VP Wei Fuxin's orthopedics (joint replacement) is the star — the 3-day knee replacement case for HK patients came from here. In 2024, they partnered with University of Birmingham for Shenzhen's first international joint clinical research institute. Phase 2 opening soon (700k sqm, 4000 beds). Downside: Guangming District is far from Futian/Nanshan (40-60 min).
SYSU Eighth Affiliated Hospital International Center
Biggest advantage: closest to HK border crossings. Prof. Lam (HK cardiac) visits regularly. Approved for HK-Macau Drug Connect.
Shenzhen Second People's Hospital
Shenzhen University General Hospital
Young but two differentiators: HSR access for HK patients, cutting-edge treatments (LITT, CAR-T). Approved HK-Macau Drug Connect.
Longgang District People's Hospital
United Family Healthcare Shenzhen
Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine Shenzhen Hospital (Futian) International/HK-Macau-Taiwan Service Center
GUCM Shenzhen Hospital excels in TCM internationalization — 26,567 international/HK-Macau-Taiwan visits in 2024. If you want TCM from Hong Kong (oncology support, acupuncture rehab, sub-health), this is more specialized than general hospital international departments. Located in Futian center (near Jingtian Station), convenient transport. Downside: TCM-focused; for Western medicine specialties, go elsewhere.

- Shenzhen Third People's Hospital — Tuberculosis: #3 nationally (1st in Guangdong)
- USTC Union Shenzhen Hospital — Pain Medicine: #3 nationally (only one in Guangdong)

Not Sure Which One?
Honestly — reading articles alone won't always get you to the right choice. Every situation is different.
- Tell me your symptoms and I'll recommend based on my knowledge of Shenzhen hospitals
- Start with a Pre-trip Consultation (from ¥400) — a 30-minute video call to figure out where to go and who to see
I'm not a doctor, so I can't tell you 'what to treat.' But I can tell you 'who to see' — those are two different things.
